When someone thinks of Las Vegas, they have a common perception that it’s only good for nightlife. People start thinking about casinos, bars, pubs, and clubs. But, the city is also famous for natural tourist attractions such as Red Rock Canyon, Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Valley of Fire, Zion National Park, etc.
Valley of Fire
Located about 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas, Valley of Fire is a state park spread on 46,000 acres of land. Established in 1935, it is a civic amusement and nature preservation area. It is the oldest state park in Nevada and a popular tourist destination in Las Vegas.
The state park is known for its stunning red sandstone rock formations formed by the great shifting sand dunes 150 million years ago. The park gets its name from these rock formations that appear to be on fire over a sunny day. This geologic wonderland has 2000-year-old naturally petrified trees and petroglyphs. The state park is also abundant in wildlife including snakes, bighorn sheep, kit foxes, and coyotes.
The park is roughly an hour’s drive from Las Vegas. Once you are here, you are surely going to get fall into the vista views of nature. With several walking and hiking trails, this fiery terrain is a perfect place for adventure enthusiasts. You can also plan a picnic with friends or family including children. The park remains open 24 hours a day and 7-days a week.
Main attractions of the park are Elephant Rock, The Beehives, Mouse’s Tank, Rainbow Vista, Pink Canyon, The Fire Wave, White Domes, Seven Sisters, and the Fire Cave. The visitor center at the park exhibits information on the ecology, geology, prehistory, and history of the park. You can also purchase books, souvenirs, and exhibits on Valley of Fire and the nearby areas from the visitor center.
